Thanks to everyone who “Dined Out”!

It was a full house at Coastal Kitchen Wednesday night, thank you to everyone who came out and helped contribute to a fun event! (And special thanks to Toi Sennhauser, who volunteered her time to make many kids happy with face-painted guineau pigs, carrots, Magic: The Gathering creatures, etc.)

We’re hoping to have more “Dine Out” events this year—so if you couldn’t make it this time, you’ll have more chances. And if you have a favorite restaurant who you think might be interested, feel free to ask them or let us know!

Is your kid’s brain ready to sponge up Spanish?

[Update: Sponge canceled the class due to low enrollment. If you’re interested in helping organize other enrichment activities, contact Nick Hodges, nickhabq AT gmail.com.)

Sponge School is offering before-school Spanish classes every Wednesday morning at Lowell starting next week. Check out this video from the Sponge website to get a feel for this cool program:

Here’s all the info and registration details from the instructor:

“At Sponge class, students learn important, everyday language through exciting thematic units and a wide variety of interactive games, activities, and songs. This year online portal is upgraded and students will be able to practice pronunciation and play games outside of the classroom! Each student also gets a course book !

Our goal is to build a strong foundation of comprehension and communication skills, all while having fun!

Lowell “Parent Guide”

Watch for the “Parent Guide” to come home with your child soon. It’s a little fold-out pamphlet with a ton of great info about this year at Lowell—both curricular (like what Lowell is doing around Social Emotional Learning and closing the opportunity gap) and practical (there’s a great breakdown of what happens during the week with art, P.E., etc.).

Read the whole thing, but Tammy wanted to especially flag the procedures around changing pickup plans. See those below, but the key takeaway is that you can’t have your child communicate any pickup changes. You need to send a note or speak with someone directly at the office by 3pm.

Update on Lowell after-school enrichment classes

Update: We now have a whole page dedicated to describing Enrichment and Child Care options.

Watch for a Fall 2017 Enrichment Catalog in your child’s take-home folder. These after-school classes take place at Lowell but are provided by Miller Community Center and Seattle Parks & Rec.

We’ve been told that two pieces of information are missing from the catalog:

“Who you gonna call?”

Many thanks to everyone who came out for the classroom rug cleaning this week! And to the Safeway on 15th for donating the Rug Doctor machines and supplies.

The work went quicker than we thought (perhaps because it was fueled by doughnuts), and we even got to gear up with this sweet Ghostbusters-style vacuum. The number of enthusiastic thank-yous we heard from teachers easily outnumbered the rugs that we cleaned.
