This Wednesday, December 6, all families are welcome to join Seattle Music Partners in the Lowell cafeteria as all four SMP elementary schools (Leschi, Lowell, Madrona, and Bailey Gatzert) come together to play in their first concert of the year!
The elementary school band and orchestra will each play a couple of songs, accompanied by students in the Middle School Music Project.
(From SMP: “Students should bring their instrument and sheet music, and wear their new SMP t-shirt. If you are able, please bring a potluck dish to share.” Send questions to Meaghan at firstname.lastname@example.org.)
A lot of families have asked about today’s DeVos counter rally that many of our teachers and members plan to attend. It’s happening in Bellevue at 5pm today (Friday) outside the Hyatt Regency. Here is the latest Seattle Times coverage.
The Washington Education Association is organizing free buses to the event, leaving from Roosevelt, Chief Sealth, and Rainier Beach high schools. Sign up here if you’re hoping to take one of those. The buses will start leaving at 3:30 as they fill up. (Familes are welcome and encouraged to take the buses, just put “Parent” where it says “Position” on the form.) Wear red if you have it!
If you have more questions about the event, read on to see the latest event flier from the Equity in Education Coalition.

FYI, this flier has more details on Curriculum Night. (Note: You’ll go to the classroom with your child, so childcare won’t be needed.)
Tell your friends! Tell your neighbors! Tell your coworkers! This is a great, fun, and easy way to support Lowell, eating out at Coastal Kitchen (up on 15th, across from the QFC) on Wednesday, 9/27. Mark your calendars!
You can also RSVP on Facebook and share the event with friends: https://www.facebook.com/events/128773097746624/
Want to help spread the word? Print out the poster and put it up at your work or in your building: Dine Out Poster – Coastal Kitchen 9.27.17 (And thanks to Lowell parent Franz Diessner for the beautiful poster design!)
Don’t miss the big Family “Back To School” Picnic! It’s at Lowell (1058 E Mercer), on Wednesday, Aug 30, from 5:30 to 7:00, with free food, drinks, and games. It’s a great time for children, parents, staff, and teachers to hang out and enjoy the last of summer. (Note the earlier start time! We’re kicking things off a little bit early so more teachers can make it.)
Union Church is generously doing a book drive on behalf of Lowell. They are looking for volunteers from the Lowell community to represent the school at their booth.

Hello Lowell community! We are seeking volunteers for three events before school even starts!
On Sunday the 20th there is a work party to clean up the playground and field.
On Wednesday the 30th earlier in the day there is a work party to clean the area rugs that are in many classrooms.
On Wednesday the 30th later in the day there is the Back to School Picnic, and we need volunteers to help setup, cleanup, and if you are able, contribute food and drinks. If you might be able to organize this event, we are particularly eager to hear from you.
